The S&P 500 recovered its losses to end the day flat, despite increased expectations for the Federal Reserve to tighten monetary policy at a faster pace.

European Markets summary
Concerns over a faster-than-expected rate hike, increasing inflation, and fast-spreading Omicron sent European stocks lower on Monday, extending their first weekly drop in three weeks last Friday. Technology led the way down with a 2.3 percent drop, while banks benefited from anticipation of tighter monetary policy. In corporate news, Atos, a French consulting and technology corporation, fell 16.8% after announcing that it will fail its annual profit forecasts.
On the statistical front, the unemployment rate in the Eurozone fell to 7.2 percent in November, down from 7.3 percent the month before, while investor sentiment in the bloc rose in January. Investors are looking forward to the release of the US inflation report on Wednesday, which is likely to reveal the greatest increase in consumer prices in nearly four decades, prompting the Federal Reserve to raise rates in March.
