In December 2021, new house sales in the United States increased by 11.9 percent from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual pace of 811 thousand, easily exceeding market estimates of 760 thousand.
The Midwest (56.4 percent to 86 thousand), the South (14.9 percent to 456 thousand), and the West (56.4 percent to 456 thousand) saw the largest increases in home sales since March (0.4 percent to 242 thousand). New house sales in the Northeast, on the other hand, were down 15.6 percent to 27 thousand units.
Between November and December, the supply of new homes for sale decreased by 9.1%, resulting in a six-month supply.
